Rio Olympics: Swimming | Samson Opuakpo bows out

Nigerian swimmer, Samson Opuakpo is now out of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games after finishing third in the Men’s 50m freestyle on Thursday, August 11.

Opuakpo who was given a wild card to the Olympic Games, finished third in the Men’s 50m freestyle heat in 24.85s.

With that result, he finished 59th and not among the 16 swimmers with the fastest times go through.

Andriy Hovorov of Ukraine finished first in 21.49s with United States’ Nathan Adrian (21.61s), Anthony Ervin (21.63s) France’s Florent Manaudou (21.72s) and Cameron McEvoy from Australia (21.72s) are the top five finishes.

Opuakpo is a Nigerian swimmer from Delta State. He was given a wild card to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

He currently holds the best backstroker and distance freestyler record in Nigeria.
