Netflix quietly reveals a new icon to complement its logo

Netflix has revealed a new icon to complement its logo – comparing the design to ‘a piece of statement jewelry’ on Monday.

The icon, a simple red ‘N’ on a black background, appeared on the company’s Facebook and Twitter accounts on Monday. It seemed better fitted to a square format than the website’s logo, which displays its full name on a horizontal template.

Some shared comments on social media announcing that Netflix had adopted a new logo but the website clarified and said the icon would be used in addition to, not instead of, its logo.

‘We just got a new ‘do- keeping it fresh. Our logo isn’t going anywhere, the icon is just a new piece of our overall look,’ Netflix told a Twitter user.

When another person asked if the company had gotten a new logo, Netflix replied: ‘Just added a little flair with a new icon. New piece of statement jewelry, if you will.’

Meanwhile people shared positive comments about the new icon – a contrast to the negative reactions received by companies like Instagram when they unveiled their own new designs.
