A baby dolphin has been saved from certain death after a kind watersports instructor gave him a helping hand back on his way.
Tour guide Naude Dreyer of Pelican Point Kayaking in Namibia initially had little hope that the young Benguela dolphin would survive its ordeal.
But it happily swam off – and even appeared to give him a goodbye flip of the tail as it made its way on to new adventures.
Mr Dreyer said that he spotted the baby dolphin lying on the beach and rushed to try to help it in a post on Facebook.
The Benguela dolphin, also known as the Heaviside’s dolphin, is specific to the waters off Namibia and the west coast of South Africa. They grow to about 1.8 metres in length and weigh up to 75 kg at full size.
