Game Of Thrones season 6 concluded with a thrilling 69-minute finale episode titled Winds Of The Winter. The aptly named season finale not only saw resolution to the long-drawn fate of the North and Winterfell, but also hinted at the upcoming events in season 7 of the HBO fantasy series.
Winds Of The Winter had no major cliffhanger moments, but it did set the stage for the next set of events. With Daenerys Targaryen proceeding towards Westeros along with her fleet of ships, a war seems possible in the next phase of the show.
However, the war scene and prophesy seem incomplete without two other riders for the dragons – Rhaegal and Viserion – along with Daenerys atop her Dragon. Fan theories on Reddit predict that the mother of dragons will be joined by none other than Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister.
The prophesy and Daenerys’ vision
The series has so far established the fact that only Tagaryens will be able to control the fire-breathing beasts, and ride on them. Daenerys, whose lineage has been clearly established so far, is already marching ahead on her Drogon, but the prophesy states a “three-headed dragon”. According to Esquire, in the House Of The Undying, the Targaryen daughter had a vision of Rheagar saying, “The dragon has three heads,” and also in the past Aegon Targaryen rode to Westeros with his two sisters on dragons.
All these hint that the fire queen needs two companions.
Jon Snows’ parentage hinted upon in season 6 finale
Fans had theorised long back that Jon is a Targaryen and Stark offspring, most likely of Rhaegar and Lyanna. Although the season finale left much to the viewers’ imagination, it seems young Ned Stark was compelled by his sister Lyanna to keep Jon’s parentage a secret for the sake of his safety. “If Robert finds out, he’ll kill him. You know he will,” Lyanna says in her final moments to her brother, who had found her soaked in blood after childbirth in the Tower of Joy.
Is Tyrion a Targaryen?
The hunt for the third rider ends with the dwarf according to fan theories, as they predict that Tyrion is not a true-born Lannister, rather the son of Aerys II Targaryen and Joanna Lannister. A Reddit user even pointed out that all the three characters – Daenerys, Jon and Tyrion – have a common trait that their mothers died during childbirth. Also, these strong characters have fought against odds to rise to their current status.
This brings us to the conclusion based on fan theories and reports that ultimately Game Of Thrones season 7 might see Daenerys Stormborn riding on her Drogon with Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister – all three possibly sharing the Targaryen bloodline.
