CAN Urges Mutual Respect, as Plateau Records Peaceful Eid-el Kabir

As Muslim faithful were having a peaceful Eid-el Kabir celebration in Plateau State, their Christian counterparts felicitated with them, urging all citizens in the North and Nigeria to develop mutual respect for one another.

A statement in Jos on Monday signed by Chairman, Northern chapter of Christian Association of Nigerian (CAN), Rev Yakubu Pam, admonished Muslims and Christians in the North to exhibit the spirit of love and sacrifice, and be their brothers’ keepers.

He reminded the leaders of the two religions of their one common task of using their positions to preach the message of love, peace and mutual respect for one another to their followers. He also urged them to build an atmosphere devoid of crises, killings and destruction of properties as witnessed in the past.

According to him, Northern region is blessed with human and natural resources that if harnessed by the government and people of the region can help develop it and other parts of the country.

He added that the under development of the North will be a thing of the past if all hands are put on deck.

Pam also urged religious extremists and terrorist groups in the North, especially Boko haram in the North-east to lay down their arms and embrace peace, so that the internally displaced persons from the region can return to their homes.

Meanwhile, President of Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC), Dr Yakubu Shendam, has also felicitated with Nigerian Muslims, especially the youths on the occasion of the Eid el Kabir celebration, calling on them to emulate Prophet Mohammed in their conduct.

Shendam also enjoin the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung to continue to peace, love and religious tolerance to Nigerian youths, adding that it is only in such atmosphere that development can thrive.
